Located at 19 Bund (19 No.1 East Zhongshan Road), the South Building of Peace Hotel was constructed in 1906 and formerly known as the Palace Hotel，which was the highest and the first building elevators were used in Shanghai at that time. It is a brick-facing building under British style. The outer walls are faced with white bricks and marked by red bricks while the Baroque windows are of various designs. It was in this hotel that in 1909 "the International Opium Commission" was held and in 1911, personalities of various circles in Shanghai congratulated Dr. Sun Yat-sen on his taking office of provisional president.
